The Easy Way to Start a Luxury Picnic Business

So first, a disclaimer...starting any busy isn't "easy"!  However, there are steps you can take to make your journey easier. I'd like to help you learn from my mistakes.

Congratulations on your desire to become a "picnicpreneur".  This industry is perfect for the person who loves to host parties and it's a wonderful fit for someone who loves romance.  If you love to plan intimate gatherings and you have a knack for decor and creativity you'll love it here.  

The luxury picnic business industry has taken off!  New entrepreneurs are discovering the perfect creative niche that allows them to entertain and earn simultaneously.  Jumping into this industry seems so easy until you actually jump into this industry. But it doesn't have to be...

The pop-up picnic business model is not rocket science.  However, you will need to be strategic in your start-up process to save money and time.  Here are three HUGE tips on the easier way to start a luxury picnic business:

CHOOSE WHAT TYPE OF PICNICS YOU WILL OFFER

The first thing you will want to do is to decide on what type of picnics you will offer your customers.  This is probably the most important tip of all.  Knowing what kind of picnics you want to host will help you determine several things.  First, it will help you select your inventory.  For instance, if you plan to do mainly picnics for children, there is no need to purchase wine glasses.  Additionally, knowing what type of picnics you will offer will help you determine your brand voice and identity.  If we go back to that example of hosting mostly kid picnics, you will choose bright colors for your brand colors that will convey a "kid-friendly" image.

There are so many types of picnics that you can offer.  Birthdays, anniversaries, hotels, bachelorette parties, kid parties, corporate events, and the list goes on.  So first, take a minute and write down what type of picnics you will provide.

CHOOSE YOUR INVENTORY WISELY

I'll be the first to admit that I love to purchase for my picnic business!  However, if you want to stay on budget (and not lose your mind overspending as I did at first), you'll want to choose your inventory wisely.

Go back to the list above and look at the types of picnics you want to offer.  Make your purchases based on that list.  You don't want to purchase a product because it is on sale if it does not coincide with what services you plan to offer.  Make sure that EVERY purchase you make reflects your brand and your business model!

CREATE A BUZZ

As you prepare to open your business, it is important to create a buzz before your launch.  You can create a buzz by establishing your social media pages (Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, etc.)  and building your following.  Here are some things you can do to create a buzz:

  • Share purchases that you make for your business on your social media pages.
  • Share your Launch Date with your followers!
  • Share pictures of mock picnic setups.
  • Post pictures of picnic locations that you love.
  • Create "coming soon" posts regularly.
  • Frequently poll your followers and ask them to help you decide on things such as your logo or brand colors.
  • Make contacts with vendors and when you decide on which ones you will work with, share their information on your page, tag them, and express your excitement to be working with them.

I can't express how much I enjoy working with new and established picnic entrepreneurs.  Now is the time to start your own business in this "up and coming" industry and I know you can do it!

Hello there!
I was wondering when you started out, how did you price? I want to be competitive but I also want to be profitable. I want to start with small packages for 2 guests and I was thinking like right under $100.. and more for large groups up to $300.
